About Me

Internal battle: Generalist or Specialist

I suppose this all started with a simple but constant curiosity.  I wanted to know… How did they make that commercial?  How did he play that guitar riff?  And, could I take a picture that looked that good?  Every time I answered these questions, I was left only with a desire to know more.

Driven by this curiosity and a passion to create,  I first learned to play the guitar and then how to write songs. This transitioned into audio recording, and then sound design.  I began to shoot video, which led to video editing, then effects, and then to motion graphics.  I picked up a 35mm camera and learned the rules of light and composition. Then the nuances of digital photography, then photo editing.  And in this manner I learned web design—HTML and CSS.  I taught myself the technological aspects of the equipment I use, including how to build and repair my own computer.

Although this left me with quite the wide skill set, it also left me with the hard decision of choosing what my focus should be. And for the last couple years, I’ve focused on motion graphics.  Partly because it’s the most fun, but also because I get a chance to use my diverse skillset almost everyday.  The timing I learned from music, the composition from photography and design, and editing skills from video production are all essential in the field of motion graphics.

Working with me

I have freelance experience; I’m self-directed, self-managed and self-motivated. I know how to organize large projects and can work off-site quickly and efficiently.  And, if your not from portland? No problem.  I’ve worked remotely from Seattle to San Francisco.  I am comfortable in a studio environment. I was a team member of Copious Creative, a small but award-winning interactive agency.  The time I spent at Microsoft Game Studios gave me experience working in a corporate atmosphere.  I can handle short deadlines, creative directors and early morning conference calls.  I’m available off-site or on, Mac or PC.  I’ll be there and I’ll get the job done.
